Being a Good Marketer Means Being A Good Person

by Dave Cleinman

I know that this title sounds like something out of a kindergarten business manual.  And there really is a reason for that.  Today I received yet another spam message, at an e-mail that I keep so private, I even forget it exists!

I'm serious.  I keep one e-mail solely for personal use.  I don't advertise it, I don't share it with anyone but close friends and family.  Yet somehow some nasty spammer managed to find it in some obscure corner of the internet universe.  I had to reply to them and request removal, while also threatening them with the doom of the spam report.

It irks me even more that they were promoting an absolute scam!  You have read my ezine.  You know how I feel about that!  There are posts on my blog that detail how to deal with idiots like this!  Yet the curse of the spammers lives on.  Like some newborn Twilight vampires lusting for new blood, and unstoppable by any human means, they prey on the innocent, spread their corruption around, and wait for the blood (sales) to come flowing their way.  By the time they realize that it is never going to happen, they are frustrated and convinced the whole network marketing thing is, wait for it, A SCAM!

Even more are the amazing names in network marketing from whom they could be learning.  Guys like Mike Dillard, Mike Filsaime, Joel Therien, Frank Kern, Dave Cleinman, women like Donna Fox, Kim Nesbitt, Janet Legere, Saberra Lee, Ann Sieg.  These are million dollar marketers who NEVER send spam, yet have more success in one day, doing things the right way, than spammers have in years of doing their dirty deeds.

There is this (apparently dying) quote from a rather famous historical figure:  "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!"

Would a spammer say:  "I send spam because I like to get it!?"

Not very likely!

Being a good person means following good ethics in business.  In the short term this may seem like a no-win situation.  After all, getting traffic to a website is hard.  Choosing a good opportunity is difficult.  Learning all this ethical marketing stuff is impossibly difficult.

NONSENSE!  Find the people who have had success and follow their lead.

HINT HINT:  "They didn't send no stinkin' spam!"

How to Avoid Errors In Your Email Campaign

By:  Sue White

There are a few things small business owners need to know for an effective email campaign. Read on to learn how to send out emails to your customers and cients.

10 Things to Avoid:

1. Don't ever embed an image in an email. This will cause your email to be block by many email providers. Along the same line, don't send an attachment with your email. You should always use an embedded link.

2. Don't use all CAPS in your email. Make your emails conversational - don't shout at the reader (this is what CAPS implies.)

3. Don't use the word "Remove" in your email, use "Unsubscribe". Always give the person reading your email an opportunity to be removed from your email list.

4. Don't start your subject line with "Dear..." We will get more into subject lines in our webinar, however, in case you can't make it - this is a good tip. I know that when I see "Dear..." in the subject line I can almost guarantee that it is one of those emails telling me I just inherited a million dollars - yea right! Do personalize your email when possible with the person's first name.

5. Don't put ADV in your subject line. This is a dead give away and will land your email in spam filter grave yard. Speaking of subject lines - use one; don't leave the subject line blank.

6. Don't overuse punctuation in your emails - especially the use of explanation points! This goes back to making your emails more conversations. No hype.

7. Don't use HTML - use text. Many email programs encourage you to use HTML. I have done some testing on my own and my plain text messages have a much higher read rate.

8. Don't overuse HyperLinks. Each email should have only one place you want to send the reader. You will want to repeat the link at least twice, but no more than that and don't send multiple links.

9. Don't say "Click Here". If you are sending an invitation, say "Register Here" or "Respond Here." For other links say "We Invite You To Go Here".

10. Don't send uninvited emails. Most autoresponders have a double-optin. Make sure people have opted into what you are sending them.

If you follow these few simple "don'ts" you will have a much higher probability of your message reaching it's intended audience.
