The vast majority of internet
marketers make the mistake of trying to sell products and services by
using a hard-sell approach. This means placing ads that tell us all about
the products, how great they are, and how we can’t live without them.
This approach has lost its effectiveness mainly because so many ads are in
our faces all day long. They all sound the same and they all work the same
way. Hundreds of ads that all sound alike are useless in terms of sales in
this day of media saturation, and better methods are being employed every
day with great success. What follows is a review of what successful
marketers are doing to get results.
1. Don’t blast ads! Share content: What the majority of entrepreneurs
are seeking, and this is probably true of yourself as well, is knowledge.
They want to learn what to do and how to do it. They don’t care about
the best product unless they need it. They don’t care about our
phenomenal service unless they have been seeking it. Odds are poor that we
will reach the exact person who is looking for our offer at the time we
blast an ad. On the other hand, sharing relevant and useful content will
attract people to our lists, and as we provide the service they are
seeking, they will buy. This is the difference between an ad blast and a
cultivated relationship.
2. Market research is important. Knowing what your niche is seeking will
help you tailor your message to them making advertising messages more
effective. Rather than an ad blast, this is content mixed with
advertising, a more useful and effective method. Knowing who your target
market is will also help you find the right places to share your offers,
improving results.
3. Emotions are the reason people buy and they justify the purchase with
logic. Sales copy that digs into emotions and sparks an emotional response
is many times more effective than ad copy that just lists features and
benefits. Use emotional triggers, demonstrate (don’t tell) how the
product or service will improve the customers situation or increase their
enjoyment of life, and you have the foundation for a winning strategy.
4. What you promote is equally important as how you are promoting it.
Avoid selling garbage products or services. Just as you want your message
to provide value, your offer MUST provide more value than the asking
price. “Undercharge and Overdeliver.” This is especially true with
intellectual property. Most learning materials can be developed
inexpensively and easily, and selling them for vast amounts of money is
not effective. Strike a balance between cost and value, however, and you
will see great sales results. A 300 dollar product that provides a system
that can make someone thousands in revenue is an example of this. A
money-back guarantee is equally vital.
5. Avoid unethical marketing behavior. Don’t spam mass e-mail lists. Do
not spam forums or social networking sites. Do not post random ads in
online groups. Don’t go to webinars and naysay what is happening because
you think you’ll get people’s attention and they’ll want to see what
you are offering. They will not, and these behaviors can destroy
reputations extremely quickly. There are better ways to use forums, social
media, online groups, and webinars. That is where you want to share value,
start dialogues, share content, and get people to know, like, and trust
you.
If you peruse the social media sites and watch what people are doing,
you’ll see that the individuals who are following these methods enjoy a
much higher level of success than the numerous other people who spam ads
all the time. You’ll also see that the people providing content rather
than spamming ads are far fewer, about 5 to 95. Interestingly, this ratio
corresponds to the general success vs. failure rate in internet marketing.
A coincidence? Definitely not. ◄
Controlling our
mental processes rather than being controlled by them is essential for
personal productivity and full enjoyment of life. To achieve mastery
of our own thoughts and emotions requires some simple effort and
follow-through as well as a strong desire to be in control of our
mental energy. In reality we have but two choices: either take
control of what goes on in our minds or have our minds be controlled by
influences that are not always beneficial. This is not a difficult
transition. It is different, though, and can be very fulfilling and a
lot of fun. ◄
